Wilbur G. Scott, 98 of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Boone County Health Center, Albion, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Vern Olson officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Levander Funeral Home of Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements. Wilbur Garland Scott, son of Hervey and Iona (Hans) Scott was born December 14, 1918, in Garland, Nebraska. Wilbur attended school in Denton, Nebraska. On February 17, 1943 he was united in marriage to Lucille Esther Kurtzer. To this union three children were born: Jerome, Patricia, and Linda. The couple lived in Emerald, Nebraska before moving to a farm near Cedar Rapids, NE in 1955. Wilbur farmed his entire life with the help of his wife Lucy. They also owned and operated the L and S Tavern in Cedar Rapids for many years. Wilbur was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. He loved working with horses and was a member of the Cedar Rapids Saddle Club. Wilbur loved telling jokes and enjoyed the local melodramas. In his younger days he enjoyed going to dances. Wilbur is survived by; daughters: Patricia (William) Schmieding of Omaha, NE, and Linda (Gary) Giebelhaus of Sun City West, AZ; four grandchildren: Michelle (Scott) Farrell of Long Island, NY; Michael (Kelly) Giebelhaus of Bend, OR; Jaymie (Jon) Reiners of Denver, CO; Scott Schmieding of Cedar Rapids, NE; seven great-grandchildren: Emma, Garrison and Kellan Farrell of Long Island, NY; Jahla and Zoe Giebelhaus of Bend, OR; Will and Audrey Reiners of Denver, CO; two nephews : Darrell and Leland Naderhoff of Adams, NE; one brother-in-law: Harold Kurtzer of Lincoln, NE, along with many nieces and nephews. Emerson R. Kaspar, 93, of St. Edward, NE, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, NE with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in St. Edward, NE with military rites conducted by American Legion Crosier Post #226 of St. Edward, NE and the American Legion Riders. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service. Memorials are suggested to St. Edward Catholic Church or the donor’s choice. (Knopf) Kaspar was born on November 15, 1923 on a farm northwest of Richland, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler, NE, attended grade school at District 12 in Richland and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1940. After graduation, he worked on various farms and clerked at Becker Grocery in Schuyler. In February of 1943 Emerson joined the United States Navy. He trained at Farragut Idaho Naval Training Station. He also attended service schools at Iowa State University and San Diego, CA. On November 11, 1943 he was sent to Hawaii for more instruction on operating and repair of Higgins Landingcraft boats. He spent two years on Majuro and Eniwetok Atolls in the Marshall Islands as his stint during WWII. Emerson returned to the states in 1945 and was honorably discharged on January 26, 1946 after attaining the rating of Motor Machinist Mate 1C. Following his time in the service, Emerson worked at Dowd Oil Co. in Schuyler and helped his parents who owned Anna Café. In June 1946 he earned a private pilot’s license and flew Piper Cub planes for recreation. On April 6, 1948 he was united in marriage to Gloria Mares at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. He did earth moving in Colfax County until moving to a farm in the Salem Community northeast of St. Edward in 1955. He farmed and worked for Loup Valley Construction Company of Monroe, NE until 1971 when he started E.R. Kaspar Construction Company, a soil conservation and earth moving business. He retired in 1999. Emerson was a member of the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, NE and a trustee there. He also served on the District 17 School Board in St. Edward, and the Archdiocese Pastoral Council for four years. Emerson was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Crosier American Legion Post #226, and the VFW. He loved sports, particularly baseball, and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Emerson is survived by four children: Daniel (Dorian) Kaspar of St. Edward, NE; Kathy (Ron) Spiegel of Loup City, NE; Alan (Renee) Kaspar and Kevin (Bridget) Kaspar of Omaha, NE; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Delores Mares of Schuyler, NE, along with other relatives and friends. Douglas Lynn Steinkruger was born December 31, 1951 and lost his battle with cancer at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska on October 25, 2017 at 12:44 p.m. at the age of 65. Doug was the oldest of 4 children, raised on a farm in Franklin County. He participated in 4-H as a young man and went on to be a leader in 4-H. He attended Macon Methodist Church where during his high school years he taught Sunday school and assisted as the stand-in for the minister of the church when needed. He attended a one-room school house in Macon, NE from 1st to 8th grade, then graduated from Hildreth High School. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; Mildred Condreay, Columbus, NE, Dale Steinkruger, Denver, CO; brother, Tim Steinkruger, Columbus, NE, and nephew Lee Hunter, Thief River Falls, MN. Before he embarked on his career in real estate, Doug was a high school teacher, graduating from Kearney State College, with a degree in English and Speech. His first teaching assignment was in Rocky Ford, Colorado, then Bogota, Columbia. He then returned to school to complete his Masters at the University of Colorado before accepting another teaching position in Farmington, New Mexico. Doug continued to be the teacher, coach and mentor throughout his life. Doug started his real estate career with NP Dodge Company as a sales associate on November 30, 1989 at the Bel Aire office. He was named Manager of the Gold Circle office on April 24, 2000 where he went on to establish a very successful office where everyone felt like family. When the office moved to Lakeside, Doug moved with it. He was then chosen as the Broker Manager of the new Oak Street office on March 10, 2006. The Oak Street office moved to the current location at 35Dodge. Doug flourished in growing the South Omaha office and later 35Dodge. Doug loved the diversity of these offices – and the diversity of the neighborhood. Doug was a good listener, and genuinely cared for each client and each sales associate with whom he worked throughout his career. During his career, Doug joined OABR on January 4, 1990, and President in 2002. He was REALTOR of the Year in 1998. He was a member of the Omaha Area Board of Directors, MLS Board of Directors, Equal Opportunity-Cultural Diversity Committee, Executive Committee, Past Presidents, and OABR Committee Chairman 1994-1995 plus many more. Doug was also member of the NRA Governmental Affairs Committee and WCR. Doug was chosen by the Commission to participate in the real estate examination review process in which he went to Kansas City to AMP (the examination Company) in December 2015. Doug touched many lives, and had the reputation of a sharp business man and a person who epitomized all that we value in a human being. He had a gift for building community. Loretta Jean Fields, daughter of John and Katherine Kaiser, was born in Texas on April 26, 1928. She was always known as a preacher’s daughter and moved to many locations during her childhood years. In 1940, Loretta’s family moved to Tilden, Nebraska, where she attended Tilden High School and graduated in 1945. October 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Ralph Fields at Fairbury, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Kenneth R. Fields and Kathleen M. (Fields) Gladem. The couple resided and enjoyed life on the Fields family farm three miles south and two miles west of Tilden until July 17, 1991. Loretta and Ralph then moved into Tilden until the fall of 2007, when after Ralph’s passing, Loretta moved to the Albion Assisted Living. In 2009, Loretta moved to Mid Nebraska Lutheran Home where she resided until her passing. Loretta was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. Her enjoyments in her life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir, being a housewife, and spending time with friends in various clubs and playing cards. Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen and husband, John of Albion, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Amy Simon and husband Shannon of Bucyrus, Kansas, Tonja Jasinski and husband, Scott of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tancy Laughridge and husband, Randy of Fremont, Nebraska, Christopher Fields of California, and Michael Fields of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Kylie Fisher of Omaha, Jaden Fisher, Parker Simon, and Brecken Simon all of Bucyrus, Kansas, and Everett Laughridge of Fremont; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Newman Grove Nebraska. Glenn D. Nelson, the son of LeRoy L. and Anna H. (Tonning) Nelson was born December 14, 1930, in Newman Grove, the son of Anna and Leroy Nelson. Glenn graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1947. He entered the military in 1948. During his 23 years in uniform, he served in the Air Force, Navy and Army. After retiring, he settled in Lincoln, Missouri. He returned to school and earned an Associate of Science Degree in Agriculture. He was blessed to have two wonderful women in his life. In 1959, he married Sue Shaw. They remained happily married until her death in 1983. In 1988, he married Elva Nelson. Elva and Glenn were devoted to each other until her death in April of this year. In 1988, he returned to Newman Grove after his marriage to Elva. He and Elva were members of Trinity Lutheran Church of Newman Grove. They enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. He is survived by six children; Sue Lutjen, Glen Nelson (Cathie), Randle Broberg (Nilda), Deborah Matson, Patricia Quillen, Laura Gillespie (Brian); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He attended Genoa Public Schools and graduated in 1954. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army immediately after and was honorably discharged in October 1956. He moved to Huntington Park, CA where he was employed at the Lincoln-Mercury plant. He married Sharon M.J. Smith of Genoa at Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa on June 30, 1957. They resided in Huntington Park, CA and had two sons, David Lee and Dwayne Gene. He attended night school at L.A. Trade Tech obtaining an Associate of Arts Degree in 1962. He then went into sales and estimating for different forging companies. In 1989, they moved to Reno, NV. He retired in August 2001 from Firth Rixson in Verdi, NV. In 2007, they moved to Albion. He was active in Indian Guides with his sons and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, square dancing, and golf. They enjoyed traveling and took about 10 cruises over the years. They also took a lot bus trips with the local senior groups. He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Albion; son, Dwayne from Valley Village, CA; sister, Marilyn Boyette (Jim) Roberts of Palm Desert, CA; sisters-in-law, Shirley Strain of Genoa and Patricia Tobiason of Columbus; brother-in-law, Richard (Rosalee) Smith of Genoa; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, David; still-born son, Darwin; and baby daughter, Donna. |
