Funeral Services For Vicki A. Fromholz

Vicki A. Fromholz, 73, formerly of Albion, NE and Arkansas City, KS, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Columbus, NE.

Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE.

Vicki Ann Fromholz, the daughter of Estel and L. Iola (James) Hamilton, was born on April 2, 1944 at Hyannis, NE. Vicki attended school in Alliance, NE and graduated from Alliance High School in 1962. Following her high school education, Vicki attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and then Parks School of Business in Denver, CO. 

On December 5, 1969, Vicki was united in marriage to Russell K. Fromholz at Denver, CO. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Denver; Germany; Auburn, WA; and Arkansas City, KS. Vicki worked at various secretarial jobs and later became a paraprofessional educator for middle school students. Vicki enjoyed volunteering her time at the local museum in Arkansas City as well as playing tennis, sewing, and collecting kangaroo figurines. In May of 2016, Vicki moved to Albion so that she could be closer to family.

Vicki is survived by: two sisters: Sharon (Dick) Stephens of Albion, NE; Karen DeWitt of Bryan, TX; six nieces and nephews; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russ; and son Raab.

Funeral Services For Dean R. Larson

Dean R. Larson, 94, of Albion, NE, passed away Thursday, March 8 2018, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.
 
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, with Rev. Mary Frohs officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE, with military rites by American Legion Post 162 and VFW Post 736. Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE.  Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements. 

Dean Robert Larson, son of Albert and Dorothea (Thorberg) Larson, was born October 2, 1923 at the Larson Homestead east of Petersburg, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran North Branch church, attended school at Boone County District 52 and Closter through the 10thgrade, graduating from Petersburg High School in 1941. Dean farmed with his father and worked on a crew in the Dakotas during harvest. He entered the U.S. Navy on Jan. 16, 1945 and was honorably discharged on July 4, 1946. He returned to the homestead where he resumed farming.
            
On March 25, 1951, Dean married Beverly Jean Coulter at the Congregational Church in Albion, NE. They lived on the Larson Family’s Homestead where they farmed and raised their children: Ellen, John, Luther and Betty. Dean and Bev moved off the farm to a home in Albion in 1991.

            
Dean and Bev were members of Zion Lutheran North Branch Church until it closed in 1968, and they joined Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE. He was a member of, and served on, many organizations including the Petersburg Rural Fire Board, Boone County FSA Board, Boone County Historical Society, Albion Senior Center Board, Zion Lutheran Church Council, Circle R Bible Camp Board, Sons of Norway, and Kiwanis International.

            
He loved skiing and golfing, along with traveling. He and Bev traveled to Norway twice to visit family, visited 48 states and also Great Britain.

            
Dean is survived by his wife Bev of Albion; four children: Ellen (Mike) Frey of Albion; John (Mary Lu) Larson of Petersburg; Luther (Deb) Larson of Omaha; Betty (Craig) Polt of Pierce; 16 grandchildren: Christy (Chris) Mollhoff, Kim (Eric) Yungdahl, Craig (Amy) Frey, Justin (Brenda) Frey, Nicole (Rob) Scholl, Amber (Jason) Becker, Kyle (Jessi) Larson, Kelli (Mark) Tisthammer, Trina (Andy) Rea, Chad (Meghan) Larson, Brian (Krista) Larson, Kari (Brandon) Dodd, Kirsten (Jake) Clark, Adam Polt, Matthew (Audrey) Polt, and Jessica Polt; 33 great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret (Cecil ) Jacobson, Caryll Karges, Dorothy Tisthammer, Alice Howard, Glenys (Tom) Quinlan, Laura (Michael) Wray; brother in law Andy (Jan) Coulter; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

            
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Dora Larson; two sisters: Vera Runnels and Myrna Ahrens; six brothers-in-law: David Runnels, Bud Ahrens, Bill Karges, Jim Tisthammer, Max Howard, Dick Coulter; one sister-in-law: Thelma Coulter; and infant grandson: John Alan Larson.

Edward E. Gilroy, 71, of Greeley, NE, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Boone County Health Center, Albion, Nebraska.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Jim Janovec officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Spalding, NE. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00-7:30 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Visitation will resume Friday morning at the church until service time.

Edward Eugene Gilroy, the son of Martin Ignatius and Merle Irene (Studley) Gilroy was born on April 26, 1946 at St. Paul, NE.  He attended Greeley County School District 18 up to the 8th grade.  Edward lived on the family farm with his parents.  He enjoyed mowing the yard there with his John Deere mower.  Edward played baseball as a kid, loved his cats, collected magazines, and was a model train enthusiast.   Edward loved his “scary” monster movies, enjoyed playing Go Fish and reading the daily newspaper 

He was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, NE.

Edward is survived by his sister Janet Mitchell of Bulverde, TX; sister-in-law: Helen Gilroy of Omaha, NE; nephews: Tommy Dickerson (Michelle) of Pflugerville, TX; Trey (Michelle) Mitchell of Altus, OK; Troy Gilroy of Florida; Todd (Denise) Gilroy of Omaha, NE; nieces: Jody (Jon) Tudor of Round Rock, TX; Susan Simpson of Ft. Worth, TX; Michelle (Roddy) MacKenzie of Houston, TX; Tracy (Mick) Brokaw of Omaha, NE; along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Merle Gilroy, his brother Robert Gilroy, and sister Judy (Gilroy) Overstreet.

Erica Nicole (Johnson) Kerkman, 40, of Platte Center, passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 in Columbus.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 39452 205th Ave., Columbus, NE 68601 with Pastor Brad Birtell officiating. To honor Erica’s wishes, cremation was chosen. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton is serving the family.

Erica was born December 5, 1977 to John and Donna (Bremer) Johnson in Fullerton. She graduated from Albion High School in Albion in 1995. She attended Doane College in Crete and was later employed for the State of Nebraska in Lincoln. She married Marty Kerkman on September 26, 2000 and they made their home in Platte Center. To this union, two sons were born, Aidan and Eli. She was employed at Columbus Medical Center in Columbus for 16 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, her dogs, and being outdoors.

She is survived by her fiancé, Brett Johnson of Arlington; sons, Aidan and Eli; father, John (Diane) Johnson of Albion; brothers, Craig Johnson of Albion and Tom Johnson of Monroe; nephews, Derrek and Brandon Johnson of Albion; and nieces, Sydney and Jennifer Johnson of Columbus. She leaves to mourn close friends, Mary Ann and Jim Donahue.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Donna Johnson, and grandparents, Elmer and Josephine Bremer and Ralph C. and Opal Johnson.

Ramona P. Coakes, 85, of Albion, NE, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, with Rev. David Frerichs officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE. 

Ramona Pauline Coakes, the daughter of Paul Otto and Elenora Emma (Jahde) Briese was born on August 9, 1932 at Albion, NE. She was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE. Ramona attended Boone County School District #13 through the 8th grade. She graduated from Albion High School in 1949. Following her schooling Ramona remained at home and worked at the Albion News and Boone County Courthouse. She also worked for Dr. Palmer and for Dave Carder in Real Estate and Insurance.

On February 1, 1953, Ramona was united in marriage to Robert Gene Coakes at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. After the wedding Robert enlisted in the Army while Ramona stayed at home. When he returned, they resided in Albion. After Robert’s death in 1968, Ramona continued to stay at home and raise their three children: Ron, Tracy, and Jolene. Ramona worked at the Albion Public School lunch room from 1978-1985. Starting in 1987 she worked at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE until she retired in 2010. 

Ramona was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, along with the Zion Lutheran Women. She was also a member of the American Home Women’s Club, the VFW Auxilary, and the 9th Street Birthday Club.

Ramona is survived by her three children: Ron (Zondee) Coakes of Petersburg, NE; Tracy (Kim) Coakes and Jolene (David) Roberg of Albion, NE; six grandchildren: Lacey (Shaun) Keeshan of Kearney, NE; Sara (Cody) Rasmussen of Albion, NE; Roxanne (Will) Kardell of Omaha, NE; Robert “Bob” (Amber) Coakes of Elgin, NE; Zachary Roberg of Lindsay, NE; Branden Roberg of Albion, NE; two great-grandchildren: Grady Keeshan of Kearney, NE, and Kelby Rasmussen of Albion, NE; one sister: Mary Weyant of Omaha, NE; one brother: Paul (Shari) Briese Jr. of Omaha, NE; She is also survived by: Muriel Young of Albion, NE; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her parents.
