Funeral Services For Ramona P. Coakes

Ramona P. Coakes, 85, of Albion, NE, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, with Rev. David Frerichs officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE. 

Ramona Pauline Coakes, the daughter of Paul Otto and Elenora Emma (Jahde) Briese was born on August 9, 1932 at Albion, NE. She was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE. Ramona attended Boone County School District #13 through the 8th grade. She graduated from Albion High School in 1949. Following her schooling Ramona remained at home and worked at the Albion News and Boone County Courthouse. She also worked for Dr. Palmer and for Dave Carder in Real Estate and Insurance.

On February 1, 1953, Ramona was united in marriage to Robert Gene Coakes at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. After the wedding Robert enlisted in the Army while Ramona stayed at home. When he returned, they resided in Albion. After Robert’s death in 1968, Ramona continued to stay at home and raise their three children: Ron, Tracy, and Jolene. Ramona worked at the Albion Public School lunch room from 1978-1985. Starting in 1987 she worked at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE until she retired in 2010. 

Ramona was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, along with the Zion Lutheran Women. She was also a member of the American Home Women’s Club, the VFW Auxilary, and the 9th Street Birthday Club.

Ramona is survived by her three children: Ron (Zondee) Coakes of Petersburg, NE; Tracy (Kim) Coakes and Jolene (David) Roberg of Albion, NE; six grandchildren: Lacey (Shaun) Keeshan of Kearney, NE; Sara (Cody) Rasmussen of Albion, NE; Roxanne (Will) Kardell of Omaha, NE; Robert “Bob” (Amber) Coakes of Elgin, NE; Zachary Roberg of Lindsay, NE; Branden Roberg of Albion, NE; two great-grandchildren: Grady Keeshan of Kearney, NE, and Kelby Rasmussen of Albion, NE; one sister: Mary Weyant of Omaha, NE; one brother: Paul (Shari) Briese Jr. of Omaha, NE; She is also survived by: Muriel Young of Albion, NE; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her parents.

So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was such a kind and fun loving lady. She will be missed by many.
