The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from noon today to noon Saturday, December 17.

A wind chill warning is also in effect from noon Saturday to 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 18.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to develop this afternoon, preceded by some patchy freezing drizzle. Snow accumulations of two to four inches are possible, and north to northwest winds increasing to 15 to 30 mph could create areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially in open areas. Travel may be hazardous.

Wind chill values are also expected to fall to 20 below by midday Saturday and 30 below on Saturday night and early morning Sunday. The National Weather Service is urgning residents to use caution and be prepared, as dangerously low wind chill values will cause frost bite to exposed skin in a short period of time.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilites and use caution while driving. A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low chill values. This will result in frosbite and lead to hypothermia or death if precuations are not taken.
