Boone Central/Newman Grove is the 2017 C1 State Football Runner up.

The Cardinals battled with Norfolk Catholic for class supremacy on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. The two familiar foes went spent the whole game countering each other, but ultimately it was the Knights that were able to blank BC/NG 35-0.

The first quarter was all about the defense, with neither team finding much success moving the ball. However, the second quarter saw Norfolk Catholic break through a stout Boone Central/Newman Grove defense twice to take a 14-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Cardinals continued to struggle, with yards being hard to find against the fast defense of the Knights. Meanwhile, Norfolk Catholic continued to use their speed to their advantage, tacking on points en route to the shutout win.

Quarterback Dylan Gentrup was the focal point of the Boone Central/Newman Grove attack all day. He connected on just four of his 18 attempts for 39 yards. However, he led the way on the ground with 90 yards on 19 carries as he attempted to keep things moving for the Cardinals.

Levi Kreuger acted as the co-pilot for the Cardinal offense, adding 63 yards on nine carries and leading all BC/NG receivers with two catches for 20 yards. Cody Nelson added a catch for 11 yards and William Frey added another for eight yards.

Defensively, Jessie Sullivan was the big man in the middle of it all for the Cardinals. He finished with a game-high 13 tackles. Garrett Cornwell added 11 more and Weston Chaot recorded 10.
