Eva Jesamine Buelow Johnson was born on March 18, 1918 at Antioch, NE, the daughter of Fred and Jane (Reed) Buelow. At the age seven, her mother Jane died in a house fire. Eva and her three siblings moved to Litchfield and made their home with their aunt and uncle, George and Nellie Reed and cousin Virginia. The Reeds provided a very loving and caring home for the Buelow children.

Eva attended rural schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Litchfield High School in May, 1935. Following high school, Eva was a rural school teacher for five years, attending summer school at Wesleyan in Lincoln for two summers.

Eva met her future husband, Harold LeRoy Johnson, at a Grange Meeting, and they were married on May 18, 1940, at Grand Island. They moved to their farm five miles north of Litchfield, where they raised their two children, Beverly and Darrell. They sold the farm in 1969 and moved to Grand Island. They built a home and returned to Litchfield in 1979. This was Eva’s home until she moved to Albion in August, 2007. In May, 2012, she entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home after breaking her hip.

Eva was an excellent homemaker and devoted her live to being a wife and mother. She was very active in their lives, helping Harold on the farm, and never missed any event in which her children participated. She was a Sunday School teacher, as well as Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years, and a 4-H leader for a number of years.

Eva was baptized and confirmed in the Litchfield Methodist Church, of which she was a member until her death. She was very active in her church and UMW, holding many offices and chairing a number of their fund raising events.

She was a past member of the Clear Creek Extension Club, Laf-A-Lot Club, Pinochle club, 50 year member of the Wheelers and Dealers Camping and Card Club and active in Litchfield’s community events.

Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, sewing, reading, playing cards, fishing and camping. She and Harold spent a number of winter months in their travel trailer in Arizona. They also enjoyed many bus trips. Her family will always remember her delicious noodles and pies.

Eva was a very caring person who always said, “Her home was her castle.” She relished her life and gave so much of herself to others.

She is survived by her daughter Beverly (Stan) Sherrill of Albion, NE; son Darrell (Linda) Johnson of Grand Island, NE; four grandchildren: Kim (Chuck) Heying of Petersburg, NE; Scott Sherrill of Kansas City, MO; Kiffin Sherrill of Albion, NE; and Tammy (Scott) Dugan of Omaha, NE; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Helen Eberle of Broken Bow, NE and Joan Buelow of Phoenix, AZ; one brother-in-law Doyle Johnson of Custer, SD; along with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold; two sisters Viola Feldman and Ethel Bennett; one brother James “Bud” Buelow; one cousin Virginia Elrod and one grandson Chad Johnson.
