Funeral Services For William L. Kolm

William “Billy” Lee Kolm, 90, of Cedar Rapids, NE passed away from pneumonia on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE. 

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Rev. Brian Ketelsen officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery at Cedar Rapids, NE with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #44 of Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, NE. 

Billy was born north of Cedar Rapids to Herman and Ruth (Babbit) Kolm on September 27, 1925. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. He attended the District 47 country school and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1943. Billy joined the United States Army as Private First Class in the 4th Field Artillery Battalion in 1945 and served in the Philippines during World War II. 

He married Ruth “Tudy” Allison on December 21, 1947. They had three sons, Darrell “Butch”, Gary and Kevin. Billy was a lifelong farmer north of Cedar Rapids who never turned down a game of pinochle with the grandkids. He enjoyed shooting pool, playing horseshoes, fishing and visiting with friends at the Rapid Stop. Billy previously served on the school board of District 47 and the St. John’s Lutheran Church Council and was a member of the Dan Cox American Legion Post #44. 

Billy will be sorely missed by his beloved wife of 68 years, Tudy, his son Butch of Primrose, NE, his daughters-in-law Doris and Nancy, along with 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sons Gary and Kevin and brothers Bobby and Kenneth.
