Funeral Services For Victor J. Borer

Victor J. Borer, 97, of Albion, NE, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. 

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael’s Catholic School in Albion. Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Victor Joseph Borer, the son of Joseph and Antoinette (Beierman) Borer was born December 20, 1918 at Lindsay, Nebraska. He was baptized at Lindsay Holy Family Catholic Church. As a young boy, he moved with his family to St. Bernard where he received his elementary education at St. Bernard Catholic Grade School. His family moved to the Albion area in 1934. He helped on his family farm prior to traveling to Illinois as a teenager where he worked as a farm hand. 

In June of 1941, Vic entered the United States Army and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre where he received a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, Pacific Service Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. 

Upon his honorable discharge in November of 1945, Vic returned to Nebraska where he married Ann E. Pelster on January 2, 1947 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville. They farmed north of Albion where they raised their eight children. Vic was a member of the Knights of Columbus, member and past Commander of VFW Post #736 and served with the VFW Honor Guard. He has been a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church since 1949 where he served as a parish trustee, lector, Eucharistic Minister, and maintenance volunteer. 

Vic loved his wife, children and grandchildren and he and Ann thoroughly enjoyed attending their children’s activities. Vic was proud of his service to his country. He devoted his life to his family, the church, and his farming occupation.

Surviving Vic are his wife of 69 years, Ann of Albion; children and spouses: Paul (Jody) Borer of Atlanta, GA; Ted (Debbie) Borer of Westminster, CO; Tom (Barb) Borer of Louisville, KY; Mark (Pam) of Westminster, CO; Pete (Bonnie) Borer of Littleton, CO; Tori (Mike) Phillips of Monument, CO; Beth (Mike) Bartels of Papillion, NE; and Jay (Kaye) Borer of Austin, TX; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother Larry (Helen) Borer of Elgin, NE; one sister Bernadine Spieker of Petersburg, NE; one sister-in-law Carol Borer of Auburn, IN, along with many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Gerald, Dennis, Roman & Joe Borer and four sisters Rita Daly, Sally Hageman, June Simons and Claire Pelster.
