Stanley Ervin Voborny was born August 15, 1927 in rural Madison County, NE to Stanley Joseph and Mary C. (Karella) Voborny. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (Schoolcraft). His elementary education was in rural country schools and he graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1946. Ervin celebrated his 18th birthday on V.J. Day in 1945. After the passing of his father in 1943, Ervin remained at home for the remainder of the 1940’s and through the 1950’s, assisting his mother with the raising of his six younger siblings.

In 1957 he spent the year on the construction of the Oahe Dam near Pierre, SD. On June 7, 1960, Ervin was united in marriage with Emma Marie Starman at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE. Following their marriage they lived for nine months on the Voborny farm northwest of Newman Grove before settling on their own farm located six miles southeast of Elgin in 1961, where they resided until 1983. For several years in the 1970’s Ervin was employed by Lindsay Manufacturing, while also engaging in farming. After moving to Elgin he drove semis for local farmers as well as operating “Ole Mabel” for the Elgin mills. In his later years he was known around the town for clearing aluminum cans from the roadsides, many days traveling two or three miles using a walker to do so.

He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville, NE, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2411 St Boniface, Elgin, NE and the Rae Valley Heritage Association. Ervin was an avid reader who enjoyed learning new things throughout his life. He enjoyed singing and dancing, Polka music, and poppy seed cake. He was quick with a quip, and twice as sly, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Ervin is survived by his wife Emma of Elgin, NE; four children: Joe (Shirley) Voborny of Raeville, NE; Karen (Richard) Strong of Milton, FL; Paul (Rebecca) Voborny of Dunnellon, FL; David Voborny of Elgin, NE; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Kevin) Patras of Tilden, NE; Anthony Kittelson of Petersburg, NE; Teri (Dr. Anthony) Garcia of Navarre, FL; Allysa(Eric) Duray of Coconut Creek, FL; Aaron (Alicia) Voborny of Joshua Tree, CA; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Eleanor Julsen of Lindsay, NE and Marilyn (Ray) Schroeter of Newman Grove, NE; brother: Dewayne (Germaine) Voborny of Neligh, NE; sister-in-law: Rosella Jensen of Neligh, NE; brother-in-law: Tom Lees of Palmer, AK; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Bernard Voborny; two sisters: Sister Marie (Blanche) Voborny and Jeanette Lees; a brother in law: Olaf Julsen; an infant child: John; and an infant grandchild: Christopher.
