Norma J. Johnson, 79 of rural Newman Grove, NE, passed away Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center Cottages in Albion, NE.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, with Rev. David Frerichs officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Norma Jean Johnson, daughter of Arthur Carl and Marie K. (Johnson) Rieck was born on a farm in the Dublin Township near Primrose, NE. She was baptized at St. John’s Church in Cedar Rapids, NE, confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, attended grade school at Boone County Dist. 70 and graduated from Albion High School in 1953.
On February 7, 1954, Norma married Wendell Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE. They made their home on a farm south of Newman Grove, NE in Platte County. Norma was a farm wife and raised their six children: JoAnn, Cheryl, Wesley, Wayne, Ray and Brian. Norma also cooked at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion for the past 31 years.
Norma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and has been a member of Salem Lutheran for most of her married life. She is survived by five children: JoAnn (James) Kendrick of Colorado; Cheryl (Carl) Johnson of Iowa; Wesley (Teresa) Johnson of Albion, NE; Wayne (Michelle) Johnson of Missouri; Ray (Kathy) Johnson of Pilger, NE; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three brothers: Leroy (Norma) Rieck of Omaha; Ron Rieck of Lincoln, NE; John (June) Rieck of Columbus, NE; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wendell, son Brian and great-grandson Noah.
