Merlin Leland Weber Jr., son of Merlin Sr. and LaVerna (Kavorik) Weber, was born April 15, 1934 at Friend, NE. He moved with his family to the Cedar Rapids, NE area for a short time before settling on a farm west of Loretto, NE when he was age five. He attended school at Boone County Dist. 72 at Loretto through the eighth grade and graduated from Albion High School in 1951. He entered the United States Army on January 3, 1956 and served as a Ham Radio Operator in Greenland before being honorably discharged on October 2, 1957.

He joined the Order of Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge #78 in 1964 and has been an active member of both for the past 51 years. He and Beverly also enjoyed square dancing with the Harmony Squares and participating in a card club with their Loretto neighbors for many years. In his earlier years, Merlin enjoyed bowling, but his biggest passion has been his grandchildren and following their activities. In later years, he also enjoyed driving his Model T car in parades with the Shriners.
