Lucy Margaret (Hulse) Anderson, daughter of Augustine and Daisy (Gundy) Hulse, was born July 13, 1913 at Albion, NE. She attended Albion Public Schools and then helped her uncle Rollie Gundy on his dairy farm, delivering milk, cream, eggs and fruit. Growing up Lucy attended the First Baptist and Methodist Churches, most currently a member of the United Methodist Church in Albion.
Lucy met and married Elmer Collins. They lived in Albion and to this union three children were born: Richard, Barbara and Don Ray.
She met and later married Martin D. Anderson of Closter, NE on September 21, 1939 at Albion. Born to this union were six children: Carroll, Gerald, Sue, Homer, Jack and Tim.
Lucy was a hard worker, taking care of and cooking for nine children, as well as working alongside her husband in the field. On the farm, she raised chickens and turkeys, and sold cream and milk from the Class B dairy farm at Boone, NE.
There wasn’t anything she couldn’t cook; delicious cakes and pies. Her kids couldn’t wait to get home from school as they knew the delicious homemade bread and cinnamon rolls were waiting. She baked every day in a wood fired stove. Martin passed away in 1976.
Lucy enjoyed embroidery, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed reading western books, playing cards and watching baseball and the Huskers. In later years she enjoyed dancing. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. She also volunteered at the Albion Senior Center and played in the OK Band.
She resided in her home at 903 W. Walnut St. in Albion until age 101, and then moved to Good Samaritan.
Lucy is survived by five sons: Donald Ray Collins (Pearl) of Defuniak Springs, FL; Carroll Anderson and Gerald Anderson, both of Albion, NE; Jack Anderson and Tim Anderson, both of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter: Sue Henggeler of Columbus, NE; two daughters-in-law: Nancy Collins of Grand Island, NE and Rosanne Collins of Albion, NE; 29 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren.
