Funeral Services for Lois E. Tisthammer

Lois E. Tisthammer, 93 formerly of Albion, NE passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran, South Branch, Rural Albion with Pastor Michael Kern officiating. Burial will follow at the South Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE.

Lois Evonne Tisthammer, daughter of Oscar and Clara (Mork) Flotree, was born October 8, 1922 near Newman Grove, NE. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove in 1922 and confirmed at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion, NE in 1936. She received her elementary education at District 77 of Boone County and graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1940 with Normal Training. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1941 and taught school at District 53 near Akron for a year, District 19 near Albion four years, before resuming her education at Wayne State College from 1946-1948. She returned to the Albion area where she taught at District 34 for two years, District 25 for six years, District 9 for a year and Albion Public School for four years. 

On December 28, 1958, Lois married Harold Tisthammer at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion. The couple farmed in Boone County and were blessed with three children: Lorane, Bruce and Janet. Lois resumed teaching as a substitute in 1971 and continued doing so until 1986. 

Lois was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for the first six years of her life, and a member of Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church from 1928 until the present. She was a member and secretary of the Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church Council, Women of the ELCA, Sons of Norway, Friendly Neighbor Extension Club, and President of Luther League. 

She had the gift of hospitality, entertained many, cooked and baked, and always had cookies in the freezer. She also enjoyed embroidery and made quilts for all of her grandchildren.

Lois is survived by her children: Lorane (Mark) Walth of Glendale, AZ; Janet (Brian) Smith of Parkville, MO; one daughter-in-law: Desiree Tisthammer of Gladstone, MO; seven grandchildren: Benjamin, Isaac, and Aaron Walth of Glendale, AZ; Colton and Blake Tisthammer of Gladstone, MO; Codi and Lukas Smith of Parkville, MO; and one sister-in-law: Jeanenne Flotree of Lincoln, NE; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold; son Bruce; brother: Dale Flotree; and a sister Marjorie Yurges.

​Visitation will be Thursday, May 12 at 5-7 pm at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Funeral will be Friday, May 13 at 2 pm at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in Albion.
