Funeral Services for Linda L. Barnes

Linda L. Barnes, 68 of Newman Grove, NE, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, NE with Rev. David Lapka officiating. Inurnment will follow in Hope Cemetery at Newman Grove. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Linda LaVonne Barnes, daughter of Clyde Merle and Albertha F. (Sheldon) Kissell, was born July 2, 1946 at Sargent, NE. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Sargent, NE and in 1974 was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. She graduated from Sargent High School in 1964, attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for one year, and Northwest Institute in Minneapolis, MN for 15 months to receive her degree as a Medical Technician. She moved to Fremont, NE, where she worked as a medical technologist for five years before returning to Minneapolis to work for a few years.

On September 19, 1970, Linda married Thomas Lee Barnes at Sargent, NE and moved to Newman Grove, NE where they were blessed with three children: Tim, Eric and Katrina. They owned and operated Barnes Mini Mart for 40+ years before retiring and selling the business in 2012.

Linda was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 40 years where she served as Financial Secretary for 19 years. She was also a member of the Friendship Sisters and PEO, where she served as chapter president for four years.

She enjoyed cross-stitching, attending Nebraska Football games and George Straight concerts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband Tom of Newman Grove; three children: Tim (Johanna) Barnes of Wayne, NE; Eric (Stacy) Barnes of Iowa City, IA; Katrina Barnes of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren: Claire, Elle, Laine and Lachlan Barnes; two sisters: Orva Lee Phillips of Spokane, WA; Eleanor (Howard) Sheldon of Witchita, KS; two nieces; three nephews; along with other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Albertha Kissell; brother-in-law Lowel Phillips; and two nephews: Jim Phillips and Jeff Barnes.
