Leroy Hallberg, 82, of Albion, NE, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2016 at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE with Gary Smith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Hewitt Leroy Hallberg Jr., was born on September 15, 1934 in Garrison, Minnesota to Hewitt Leroy and Doris Kathleen (Wood) Hallberg. He attended grade school in Minnesota before moving to California and graduated in 1952 from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, California. As a boy, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank. Following his graduation, Leroy, as he was known, attended El Camino Community College for two years.

On March 10, 1956, Leroy was united in marriage to Delores Yvonne Smith. Following their marriage, they continued to live in California where Leroy worked with his father at H.L. Hallberg Paving. Later, they moved to Oregon where Leroy worked at a saw mill, starting as an entry level employee and through promotions, worked his way to the top. Leroy was a very talented carpenter and craftsman, and together with his wife Yvonne, opened their own construction company, LeVon Construction, where he built custom homes. In 2005, they moved to Albion, Nebraska.

Leroy was a strong Christian his entire life, being baptized as a young man, and raising his family with Christian values was very important to him. He attended the First Baptist Church in Albion, and later studied through The Shepherd’s Chapel, a Christian televangelism network. Leroy was considered a hero by his kids and always had endless jokes to tell anyone that would listen. He enjoyed being a certified S.C.U.B.A. diver, camping, and avidly talking about canoes.

Leroy is survived by his wife Yvonne of Albion, NE; four children: Janet (Ross) Massengale; David (Lisa) Hallberg; Sherri (Bob) Provencher; and Traci (Rod) Nelson all of Albion, NE; 20 grandchildren: Delores, Stephanie, Justin, Doug, Colleen, Marisa, Courtney, Amber, Gary, Andy, Nicole, Steven, Jeffrey, Joey, Emily, Jessica, Brooklyn, Johnathan, Thomas, and Taylor; 23 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; siblings: Nancy and Danny; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers: Mike and Steve; and two grandchildren: Kristen and Jacob.

Leroy was a very special man. When he offered to do something he went all out! The replica of the Arc of the Covenant he made for VBS was incredible, along with the countless other things he created or fixed for the Baptist church. He will be missed. Our sympathy to the entire Hallberg family.
