Funeral Services for Karen L. Walters

Karen L. Walters, 70 of Albion, NE, died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at her home.

A Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday June 14, 2015 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. with Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE in charge of arrangements.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Logan, KS, with Rev. George Chalbhagam officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Densmore, KS. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Monday at Logan Funeral Home in Logan, KS, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Services in Kansas will be under the direction of Logan Funeral Home, Logan, KS.

Spiritual Bouquets and Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Karen L. Walters, daughter of Alphonse and Lucile Alice (Bernard) Riemann, was born February 20, 1945 at Norton, KS. She attended Densmore Rural High School graduating in 1963. After high school, she worked for the natural gas company and then First National Bank in Norton, KS.

On January 7, 1967, Karen was united in marriage to Gene Lee Walters at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Densmore, KS. To this union, three children were born: Lisa Ann, Renee Marie and Glen Gene. They made their home and raised their family in Densmore, KS as Karen began her career with the United States Postal Service as the Postmaster in Densmore KS, and later was Postmaster at Edmond, KS and Bogue, KS. She took early retirement in 2004 due to her health and moved to Albion, NE to be near her daughter and family.

Karen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar Society in Densmore, KS, St. John Catholic Church in Logan, KS and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE. She was an excellent cook, loved to garden and enjoyed sharing the pies she baked and garden produce she raised, with neighbors. She was a devout Kansas Jayhawks Basketball fan, but most of all she loved watching her grandkids play all sports, especially basketball.

Karen is survived by her daughter: Renee (Greg) Christo of Albion, NE; two grandsons: Alex and Connor Christo of Albion, NE; three sisters: Ruth (Roger) Roe of Osage City, KS; Mary Ellen Posson of Norton, KS; Rita Hockman of Densmore, KS; one brother: Bernard Riemann of Mesquite, NV; three sisters-in-law; Joan Riemann of Norton, KS; Lila Riemann of Phillipsburg, KS; Barbara (John) Townsend of Houston, TX; one brother-in-law: Layton (Mary) Walters of Kirwin, KS; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Lee Walters in 2002; daughter Lisa Ann Walters in 1977; son Glen Gene Walters in 2009; parents Alphonse and Lucile Alice Riemann; two brothers: Harold Riemann and Duane Riemann; brother-in-law Richard Hockman; parents-in-law: Ray and Mary Walters; along with several nieces and nephews.
