Funeral Services for John D. Sorensen

John D. Sorensen, 60 of St. Edward, NE, died Friday, June 26, 2015 at his home.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church (Rosenborg), rural Lindsay, NE, with Rev. Josh Fiala officiating. Interment will follow at St. Ansgar Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the St. Edward United Methodist Church. Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward, NE is in charge of arrangements.

John David Sorensen, son of Irving and Betty Eileen (McCarty) Sorensen, was born March 10, 1955, at Columbus, NE and grew up on a farm northeast of St. Edward, NE. He was baptized at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church (Rosenborg) and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. He received his education at Platte County School Districts #62 and #83, graduating from St. Edward High School in 1973. Following high school, he farmed with his dad before moving to Richland, where he was employed with Glen Kluck Feedlot.

On January 19, 1979, John was united in marriage to Cindy Strong at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE. They made their home in Columbus until 1982, when they moved to St. Edward. John obtained his Real Estate License and has worked as a Broker and Auctioneer with Stock Realty since 1998. John was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa and a former member of the St. Edward City Council. He loved doing auctions and meeting people. He was a great dad and husband and never lost his humor throughout all his illness. He loved his family.

He is survived by his wife Cindy of St. Edward; a daughter Jill Mitchell of Edmond, OK; two sons: William and Michael Sorensen both of St. Edward; three grandchildren: Morgan, Lauren and Tristan Mitchell; two sisters: Susan (Bruce) Nissan and Peggy (Jack) Sutton, all of St. Edward; two brothers: Anthony Sorensen and Vernon Sorensen, both of Lincoln; sister-in-law: Sally Konz of Genoa; along with several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Irving and Eileen and parents-in-law, Willie and Ferne Strong.
