Funeral Services For Joe Anna Hemmingsen

Joe Anna C. Hemmingsen, 89, of Saint Edward, NE, formerly of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Cloverlodge Care Center in Saint Edward, NE. 

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Rev. Vern Olson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, NE. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday with a 7:00 p.m. rosary service, at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, NE.

Joe Anna Catherine Hemmingsen, one of 11 children, was born on May 24, 1927 to George and Nancy (Perry) Eschliman at Greeley, NE. She received her elementary and high school education in Greeley, NE, graduating from Greeley High School in 1946. 

On June 5, 1946, Joe Anna was united in marriage to Frank Hemmingsen in Greeley, NE. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed near Cedar Rapids, NE. Frank passed away in 1963. On June 30, 1965, Joe Anna married Hekkie “Hick” Hemmingsen. The couple continued to reside and farm near Cedar Rapids, NE. Joe Anna self taught herself how to knit, loved plants, and especially loved working outdoors on the farm helping both of her husbands. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, NE.

Joe Anna is survived by her daughter: Jane (Leo) Rutten of Cedar Rapids, NE; four grandchildren all of Lincoln, NE: Anne Rutten, Ginger (John) Woodring, Matthew Rutten, and Mark Rutten; two great-grandson’s: Jacob and Joseph Woodring also of Lincoln, NE; two brothers: Francis (Carol) Eschliman of Twin Falls, ID and George Eschliman of Omaha, NE; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Frank in 1963 and Hick in 1996; three sisters; and five brothers.
