Funeral Services For Joan K. Knust

Joan K. Knust, 81, of Albion, NE, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz, Deacon Paul Weeder, and Deacon Jim Schindel officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery, Raeville, NE. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday, at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service.

Joan Kay Knust, the daughter of Leander T. and Rosella M. (Werner) Petsche was born on January 4, 1937 in Raeville, NE.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville.  Joan attended school at St. John Berchman’s School in Raeville through the 10th grade, then graduated from St. John’s Catholic School in Petersburg, NE in 1955.


On October 25, 1956 Joan was united in marriage to Mark A. Knust at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville, NE.  The couple lived for one year in Lawton, OK while Mark was in the service.  They moved to a farm a mile south of Raeville, NE where they raised their six children. In 1991 the couple moved to a farm two miles east and two miles south of Petersburg, and in October of 2006 they moved to Albion, NE.  Joan worked as a full-time wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.   She also enjoyed gardening, baking, embroidery, and making crafts for her grandchildren. Joan had a passion for quilting.  She was a member of the Raeville Quilters and later the Korner Quilters.


Joan was a member of the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and the Raeville Christian Mothers for 50 years.  When they moved to Albion, Joan and Mark became members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
            
Joan is survived by her husband Mark of Albion, NE; six children: Nancy (Bob) Luettel of Albion, NE; Floyd (Ann) Knust of Neligh, NE; Mark (Marcia) Knust, Jr. of Newman Grove, NE; Jolene Day of Lincoln, NE; Rita (Brian) Liss of Albion, NE; Lee (Amy) Knust of Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren: Kelly and Shane Eckhoff, and children Madisen, Lexie, and Landen; Amy and Jason Olnes, and children Taylor, Avery, and Dalton; Janelle and Ryan Tisthammer, and children Keiley, Karlie, and Sydney; Ashley and Ben Su, and daughter Addison; Andrew and Alicia Knust, and children Emma and Daniel; Jennifer and Will Henry, and children Liam, Jael, and Onyx; Jesse Knust; Bridget and Tanner Bollig; Jasper and Tamra Day; Leilani Day and son Korben; Kyle and Sarah Liss, and daughter Quinn; Kevin Liss and fiancé Ashlyn Brockhaus; Jordan Knust; and Justin Knust; six sisters: Ellen (Lawrence) Stuhr; Susan (Gerald) Borer; Ruth (Ken) Kerkman; Mary (Joe) Henn; Lori (Bob) Henn; Sharon (Bill) Ketteler; four brothers: David (Luana) Petsche; Donald (Shirley) Petsche; Joseph (Ev) Petsche; Charles (Pat) Petsche; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

            
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Leah Petsche, and great-grandson Noah Liss.
