Funeral Services For Irene M. Burda

Irene M. Burda, 96 formerly of Primrose, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at her home in Albion, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Primrose, NE. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE with a 7:00 p.m. wake service. Visitation will resume at the church Friday morning after 8:30 a.m.

Irene Mary (Teply) Burda was born on August 14, 1919 in Greeley County, NE, west of Cedar Rapids to Joseph R. and Margaret (Calley) Teply. Irene was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Primrose, NE and graduated the 8th grade from Greeley County.

Irene married Harry J. Burda on May 27, 1941 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stanton, NE. They raised four children: Leo, Harriette, Thomas and Jeanette on their family farm southwest of Primrose, NE where Irene loved being a housewife. In November of 1968, Harry and Irene moved into Primrose where Irene lived until moving to Albion in 2003. 

Irene was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Primrose and later became a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Cedar Rapids, where she was active in the Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Primrose Community Club. She enjoyed camping, playing cards and dice. 

Irene is survived by her children: Leo Burda of Primrose, NE; Harriette Sunderland of Albion, NE; Thomas Burda and wife Nancy of Schleswig, IA; and Jeanette Burda of Albion, NE; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one sister, Katherine Morfeld of Scribner, NE, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry in 1989; infant children Joseph and Margaret; daughter-in-law Rose Burda; son- in-law Melvin Sunderland; grandson Samuel Sunderland; brother Leo Teply; and sister, Delores Burda.
