Funeral Services For Donie F. Potmesil

Donie F. Potmesil, 72 of Newman Grove, NE passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016 at CHI Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. 

A visitation will be held 12:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE. Burial will follow the visitation at Iowa Valley Cemetery, rural Madison County with military rites by American Legion Post #73 of Newman Grove, NE.

Donie Fredrick Potmesil, son of John and Thelma (Mauer) Potmesil was born May 1, 1944 at rural Newman Grove. He attended rural School District #68 near Newman Grove through eighth grade and Newman Grove High School. He left school to enlist in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam and also was stationed in Germany and Korea before receiving a honorable discharge. He returned to Newman Grove and worked for the Farmer’s COOP in Lindsay, NE. 

Don married Earleen Mae Moore on September 19, 1966 at the Methodist Parsonage in Newman Grove. The couple made their home on an acreage near Newman Grove where they raised their family. Don worked for the Farmers COOP, along with other jobs including Behlen Manufacturing and Newman Grove Sale Barn until 1980. He started working at Lindsay Manufacturing in Lindsay, NE and enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving one weekend per month and two weeks per year, along with serving a tour of duty in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He retired from Lindsay Manufacturing in 2002, due to his health, and received a lung transplant in 2004.

Don was a member of the Neman Grove VFW and had several hobbies including his large garden, always sharing the produce that he grew. He also enjoyed trees, fishing, camping, watching birds at his many bird feeders, but most of all, watching his grandchildren in their many activities. 

He is survived by his wife Earleen of Newman Grove; four children: John Potmesil of Vacaville, CA; Todd (Jeri) Potmesil of Newman Grove; Teresa (Wes) Meyer of Columbus; Ariyana Potmesil of Newman Grove; nine grandchildren: Joshua Potmesil, Ryan Brisbin, Anthony Feiling, Jonathan Dohmen, Ashley, Jacob and Isaac Potmesil, Reece and Gage Schmidt; two great-grandchildren: Raiden Gillespie and Jaxen Dohmen; six siblings: John Potmesil of Okolona, MS; Karen (Bob) Jacobson of Newman Grove; Delbert (Mary) Potmesil of Omaha; Theresa (Troy) Hahlbeck of Stanton; Helen Jones of Lincoln; Kenneth (Mary) Potmesil of Newman Grove; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Margie.
