Funeral Services for Danny Dean Berney

Danny D. Berney, 73 of Albion, NE died Sunday, November 29, 2015 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will resume Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. 

Danny Dean Berney, the son of Irvin “Bay” and Emily Marie (Wichman) Berney, was born July 3, 1942 in Albion, Nebraska. Danny attended Albion Public Schools and graduated from Albion High School in 1961. Following his graduation he attended barber college in Sioux City, Iowa, later transferring to Omaha, Nebraska, where he graduated in 1962. 

On April 18, 1964, Danny was united in marriage to Joan M. Collen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion. Danny worked full time as a barber for three years before becoming employed with the Nebraska Department of Roads as a highway maintenance worker for 40 years. During the time that he worked for the Department of Roads, Danny also continued to work part time as a barber on Saturdays. 

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Albion Fire Department for 10 years, served as a Webelos Scout leader for two years, and also taught hunter safety classes for 26 years. Danny also enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking bus tours, going gambling at casinos, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Danny is survived by his wife, Joan of Albion; three children: James (Julie) Berney of Fargo, ND; Martha “Martie” (Kevin) Anderson of Albion; Michael (Cody) Berney of Arapahoe, NE; six grandchildren: Bradon Anderson of Albion; Madison, Olivia, Carter, Jackson, and Spencer Berney all of Fargo, ND; one brother: Jerry (Shirley) Berney of Norfolk, NE; three sisters: Donna (Gene) Westenfeld of Cordele, GA; Patsy (Jerome) Gasper of St. Edward, NE; Terrie (Dave) Thompson of Newman Grove, NE; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Irvin “Bay” and Emily Marie Berney; brothers: Bill Berney and James Berney; and sisters: Linda and Marla Berney.
