A Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel J. Schmeits, 58 of Lincoln, NE, has been rescheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, NE, with Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Interment will follow in the parish Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, at the church with a 7pm wake service.

Daniel Joseph Schmeits, son of Joseph Leonard and Irene Marie (Salber) Schmeits, was born December 18, 1957 at Albion, NE. He was baptized and made first communion at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Primrose, NE. He attended school at Dublin District #22 and Primrose Grade School, and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1976. He attended Central Community College in Hastings, NE, receiving a certificate in welding technology. He got a job with the Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company and lived in Scottsbluff, NE.
On January 5, 1980, Dan married Peggy Peterson at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE. To this union, two children were born: Alicia and Christopher. They lived in Scottsbluff until moving to Valparaiso, NE in the mid-1980’s and worked for Cushman Manufacturing in Lincoln, NE until the plant relocated. He began working for Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp in Lincoln and continued working there until the time of his death.
Dan enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, camping, spending time on his computer, and bargain hunting.
He is survived by his daughter: Alicia (Michael) Kuester of Norfok, NE; son: Chris Schmeits Nelson (Lynzee) of Albion, NE; three grandchildren: Amelia and Hudson Kuester and Harper Nelson; his mother Irene Schmeits of Spalding, NE; six siblings: Ken (Susan) Schmeits of Spalding, NE; Barbara (Tom) Logan of Lincoln, NE; Roger (Luci) Schmeits of Omaha, NE; Linda (Dennis) Bauer of Spalding, NE; Elaine (Ron) Anderson of Kearney, NE; Jean (Grant) Snyder of Odebolt, IA; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Joseph; paternal grandparents John and Anna Schmeits and maternal grandparents Charles and Margaret Salber.
