Burial Services For Karen I. Thiem

Karen I. Thiem, 73 of Glenwood, Iowa passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood, IA with Fr. Dan Siepker officiating.  Burial will be a the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, IA.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service at the church.

Karen Irene Thiem, daughter of Clarence and Lydia (Velder) Glissman, was born July 12, 1943 at Sioux City, IA. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Catholic faith at Holy Family Church in Omaha, NE. She graduated from Mercy High School in 1961.

On December 29, 1962, Karen married Donald Thiem at Petersburg, NE. They made their home in Omaha, NE where Karen was a wonderful wife and mother, raising the couples four children: Kerrie, Donald “Joe”, Kelly and John. She also worked as secretary for catholic schools. In 2014, they moved to Glenwood, IA where Karen was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and served as an EME.

Karen loved family get-togethers, spending time with her family and cooking for them, sewing and crafting.

She is survived by her husband Donald of Glenwood, IA; four children: Kerrie K. Molczyk of Lincoln, NE; Donald J. “Joe” of Omaha, NE; Kelly A. (Jason) Boles of Glenwood, IA; John V. (Wendy) Thiem of Pierre, SD; one brother: Robert (Arlene) Hodapp of Denver, CO; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lydia Glissman.
