Burial Services For Dorothy M. Janda

Dorothy M. Janda, 86 of St. Edward, NE passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m.,  Thursday October 20, 2016 at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward NE with Mgsr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lawrence, NE at 2:00 p.m. on Friday October 21. Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Edward Fire and Rescue or the St. Edward Senior Center.

Dorothy Marie Janda was born at Lawrence, NE to George and Helen (Curry) Gilsdorf on September 24, 1930. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, NE on September 28, 1930. Dorothy attended Sacred Heart School in Lawrence, NE and graduated from Lawrence High School. Following graduation she trained as a teacher and taught K-8 at Spring Ranch, NE for a year.

On June 26, 1950 she married Donald J. Janda at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, NE. In 1971 Don and Dorothy moved to Saint Edward, NE where she worked in the bank as well as being a housewife and mother.

She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church where served as the Church Treasurer as well as a member of the Altar Society.  Dorothy enjoyed golfing, bridge, Nebraska Husker sports, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Donald of St. Edward, NE; son Donald Jr. of Charles City, IA; daughters: Cathie (Paul) Moeller of Hot Springs Village, AR; Connie (Jim) Wilson of Lincoln, NE; 4 grandchildren: Erin (Scott) Shanle of Lucas, TX; Steven (Brianna) Janda of Elkhorn, NE; Jordan Janda and Leah Wilson both of Lincoln, NE; 3 great-grandchildren: Jagger, Kingston, and Aibree Shanle; 2 step-grandchildren: Kyle (Kim) Moeller of Omaha, NE; Nick (Lindsey) Wilson of Minneapolis, MN; 5 step-great-grandchildren: Gannon, Hudson, Brody, and Wren Moeller, and Landon Wilson; sister Erma Mazour of Grand Island, NE; brother John “Jack” (Jan) Gilsdorf of Omaha, NE; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert Janda, 3 siblings: Peg Long; Kay Phillips-Sylakowski; and Jim Gilsdorf.
