Sullivan Votes To Repeal Governor's Veto of Death Penalty

Kate Sullivan of Cedar Rapids was one of 30 state senators Wednesday who voted to repeal Gov. Pete Ricketts' veto of the death penalty.

At least 30 of the 49 senators were need to vote yes in order to overturn the veto. The vote of LB 268 was 30-19. 

“My words cannot express how appalled I am that we have lost a critical tool to protect law enforcement and Nebraska families,” Ricketts said in a statement after the vote. “While the Legislature has lost touch with the citizens of Nebraska, I will continue to stand with Nebraskans and law enforcement on this important issue.”
