Schmeits Finishes Third In Long Jump To Lead Chargers

It was a big first day of the state track meet for Riverside as the first of many medals rolled in for the Chargers.

Karen Schmeits finished third in the long jump to pick up the first medal of the day. The senior leaped 16-6.75 and has a chance at several more medals. She 

Molly Berger and Schmeits both qualified for the 100 finals. Berger ran a prelim time of 12.64 while Schmeits ran 12.89. Scheits also qualified for the 200 final with the best prelim time in the class - 26.29 seconds. Berger must missed finals with a time of 26.96.

In the discus, Fina Choat threw 108-3 for 10th place while Alixzandra Bloom pole vaulted 8-6 to tie for 11th. 

In boys action, junior Noah Valasek finished ninth in the Class D triple jump, leaping 40-6 inches. Senior Jacob Kennedy was 15th at 39-0. In the 3,200 run, Joel Scott finished 22nd with a time of 11:29.52. Showing his versatility as a runner, Kennedy also competed in the 100 with a time of 12.11.
