With the fastest time in Class D, the Riverside 4x100 relay team charged out in front for a state championship on Saturday. It was also one of three medals one by senior Karen Schmeits.
The team of Kalie Bloom, Schmeits, Molly Berger and Alixzandra Bloom finished nearly a full second ahead of runner-up Cedar Bluffs to win the state title. They clocked a time of 49.50.
Riverside picked up several other medals. In the 100 finals, Berger placed fourth in 12.68 seconds while Schmeits placed sixth in12.81 seconds.
In the 200 finals, Schmeits ran a 26.14 for runner-up honors.
Noah Valasek also earned a medal on Saturday. The junior leaped 19-9.75 in the long jump to earn eighth place.
