Riverside Chapter Dominates At State FFA Convention

PictureState Proficiency Winners
The Riverside FFA Chapter members attended the 2016 Nebraska FFA state Convention, April 6-8 in Lincoln. Nebraska FFA members and chapters were honored for their accomplishments at the 88th  annual State FFA Convention. Events were held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena, hotels in Lincoln's Haymarket, and the University  of Nebraska- Lincoln East Campus.

FFA members, advisors and guests supported chapters and awarded recipients. Attendees had the opportunity to listen to motivational speakers and retiring state officer addresses during convention sessions. They were engaged in leadership workshops, watched students compete in Leadership Skills Events and attended the annual Career Fair. Students also participated in the State Career Fair. Students also participated in the State Career Development Events on UNL's East Campus.

New this year, students had the opportunity to learn about future career opportunities and got an inside look at industry leaders such as Kawasaki Motors, Neogen and Hudl during tours sponsored by Nebraska Farm Bureau. 

Nebraska FFA chapters devote time and energy serving their members and communities, with many chapters and members being recognized for winning awards and contests at the FFA State Conventions. 

The Riverside FFA Chapter was honored with the following awards and contest winners. 

Fina Choat; State Champion in Swine Placement, 3rd in Diversified Livestock Production, both in proficiencies, and Silver medal in Extemporaneous Speaking

Jacob Kennedy; State Champion in Diversified Crop Placement, Proficiency 

Joel Scott; State Champion in Grain Production Placement, Proficiency, and a red ribbon in Ag Mechanics

Crystal Feik; 2nd in Nursery Operations Placement, Proficiency 

McKayla Mogenson; Bronze Medal in Job interview, Blue Medal in Biotechnoloy, Purple ribbon in Veterinary Science

Caitlin Langer; Blue ribbon in Biotechnology

Daylinn Feik; White ribbon in Veterinary science, and a red ribbon in Farm Managment 

Grant Marisch; Blue Ribbon in Agriscience

Jordan Muckey; White ribbon in Agriscience

Sydney Newquist; Blue Ribbon in Agronomy

Marisa Vavra; Red Ribbon in Farm Management 

The Biotechnology team got a Red Ribbon

The Livestock Management got a Red Ribbon and 3rd in the Swine Division

The Farm Management got a Red Ribbon

Fina Choat was also selected as a State Star Finalist in Agricultural Placement.

Riverside also had 10 State FFA Degree recipients: Molly Berger, Fina Choat, Daylinn Feik, Mercedes Hemminsen, Crystal Herley, Jacob Kennedy, McKayla Mogensen, Lana Molt, Sydney Newquist, and Joel Scott
