Funeral Service For Helen M. Swerczek

Helen M. Swerczek, 99, of Cedar Rapids, NE passed away with family lovingly by her side on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Boone County Hospital, Albion, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Interment will follow at the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 16th at the Church with a 7 p.m. Wake Service.

Helen Margaret Swerczek, the daughter of John and Ursula (Gronenthal) Krings, was born on September 3, 1916 at Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. Helen was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, where she also attended St. Anthony’s School through the 9th grade.

Helen and Joseph H. Swerczek were united in marriage on February 10, 1936 at Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. Helen loved helping Joe on the farm, where they lovingly raised their family.

Helen loved her church and religion, flowers and gardening, playing cards and visiting with family and friends, and in her earlier years, enjoyed horseback riding. She was a past president and chair lady of the Altar Society, a member of the Friendly Gals Bunco Club, and later the Neighborhood Card Club. Helen loved being surrounded and attending family get-togethers with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and other family members.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory her sons: Bill (Margie) Swerczek of Albion, Nebraska; David (Kay) Swerczek of Kearney, Nebraska; daughters: Ardie (Gary) Kruse of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Kathleen (Herb) Barnes of Wahoo, Nebraska; sister: Esther Swerczek of Hazelwood, Missouri; sister-in-law: Romaine (Pic) Krings of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Joe; son: Paul; 4 infant babies; her parents; and
grandson: Bruce Swerczek.
