![]() BCN Staff [email protected] As of today, one of Northeast Nebraska's largest employers has combined with another corporation. Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc and Affiliated Foods Midwest Cooperative Inc. announced today that they reached an agreement to combine the two businesses. According to a press release sent to employees today, the two companies are excited. "The alliance was unanimously approved by the board of directors of each company," stated the press release. "And while still subject to certain conditions, including the approval by AFM shareholders, it is expected to close later this year." Going forward, the members of the cooperatives would be members of a larger AWG. “This exciting endeavor is exactly what we need to allow our retailers to compete, grow and be profitable.” said Martin Arter, President and CEO of Affiliated Food Midwest. “Much credit is due to the vision of both AWG’s and AFM’s Board of Directors to see the possibilities of what we could become.” Affiliated Foods supplies many grocery stores around the area including Dean's Market in Elgin, Thrift-way in Neligh, TJ's Market in Orchard and grocery stores in Albion. The effect this alliance will have on both employees and local grocery stores is unknown. |
