The 2016 Cornhusker State Games are set to kick off Friday, July 15 with the opening ceremonies at Seacrest Field in Lincoln, and the City of Albion will be well represented.

As part of the opening ceremonies, National Guard Sgt. Calvin Koziol, an Albion Native and recent National Soldier of The Year Award winner, will lead all the athletes in attendance in the Oath of Athletes. The Oath is recited each year at the opening ceremonies and has been led by various athletes in the past, including members of the Nebraska Cornhuskers men's and women's basketball teams, Nebraska softball coach Rhonda Revelle, and former track and field all-Americans.

The oath is just one of many activities going on during the ceremonies. There is also a parade of athletes, a torch lighting ceremony with a special mystery torch lighter and entertainment by Nitro Circus.

One other event during the ceremonies with Albion ties is the skydiving presentation. Albion native Kenneth Bader will be one of four members of the Lincoln Sport Parachute Club to jump to Seacrest Field. According to the state games website, Bader has logged more than 6,230 jumps in his career, including three during the opening ceremonies.
