It was closer than they hoped, but the Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals were able to come out on top over Wayne, 41-37.
The Cardinals were led by quarterback Dylan Gentrup, who exploded to the tune of 324 yard of total offense and four touchdowns. He completed five of seven passes for 118 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 206 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries.
Gentrup didn't get the win alone, however. Levi Krueger added 134 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Derek Stuhr had two catches for 43 yards and Cody Nelson had 31 yards and a touchdown receiving.
Krueger and Dalton Wagner led the way for the Cardinals on defense, recording 11 total tackles each. Matthew Schmitz accounted for a sack as well.
Boone Central/Newman Grove now look to take on a strong O'Neill squad next week.
