Eleventh grade students in Boone County were able to meet with a variety of businesses in the county on Wednesday, April 15th. Known as Business and Industry Day, the event was started by the Boone County Development Agency as a way to promote awareness of potential careers available to students in Boone County.
BCDA organizers Aubrey Schriver and Mitch Glesinger worked hard to provide the participating students the opportunity to get into the community and learn about the varied career opportunities the local area offers.
Glesinger had this to say,
"We want the kids to know that you can go off to college, get some life experience, and see the world but down the road if you want to come back you can, there are many opportunities right here at home."
Participating schools this year included Boone Central, St. Michael's, Riverside, and St. Edward.
Students were able to visit a variety of participating businesses, including Stock Realty and Central Valley Ag Co-op in St. Edward, Country Partners Co-op and Cedar Rapids State Bank in Cedar Rapids, Rae Valley Market and Petersburg State Bank in Petersburg, and Kayton International, Cornerstone Bank, Albion Family Dental, Boone County Health Center, Leifelds, the Boot Rack, Sentinel, Cargill, Greenline, and the Cardinal Inn in Albion.
