Three Cardinals medaled Friday afternoon as Boone Central/Newman Grove won back-to-back cross country state championships in Kearney.
Ashlynn Baker was fifth (20:25.3), Christina Soto-Stopak finished eighth (20:46.7) and Taylor Starman was ninth (20:49.6) to lead the Cardinals. Katie Goodwater finished 38th (22:10.8), Jessica Weeder was 72nd (24:12.0) and Hannah Schmitz was 82nd (25:21.2).
The Cardinals finished 16 points ahead of second-place Cozad to claim their second straight state title.
In the boys division, Thomas Hosford placed 40th for Boone Central/Newman Grove in 18:35.2.
