Boone Central High School Sending 16 Athletes to State Track Meet

After winning and placing fourth at the District C-4 Track Meet in Pierce, the Cardinals are preparing for the State Track Meet on Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke High School.

Girls track Head Coach Kris Pestel was very happy with her team's performance.

"We had kids participate with great grit and determination. The girls had a great day coming together as a team to win the district meet. [They] were able to have 14 season bests and broke 2 school records."

Sheldon Beierman broke her own record school in the 100 hurdles, running a 15.22. The girls 4x400 meter relay consisting of Catherine Weeder, Taylor Starman, Dana Pelster and Sheldon Beierman also broke the school record running a 4:06.50, previously held by Breann Throberg, Savannah Baker, Jaime Kennedy, and Bobbi Beckwith. 

The boys were able to finish 4th in the team standings, with 13 season bests, as well as setting a school record in the 4x400 meter relay with a 3:30.28 time. The team consisted of Kyle Kramer, Cody Nelson, Damian Backus, and Zac Glidden. The record was previously held by Damian Backus, Joe Brugger, Travis Kennedy and Zac Glidden.

Pestel continued, "We as a coaching staff are so proud of how our kids performed. They all were determined to make their mark at the district meet. Their hard work, dedication and desire to compete paid off. We were able to qualify 16 athletes in 17 different events."

Those qualifying to compete in Omaha are:

Catherine Weeder  - High Jump, 400, 4x800 Relay, 4x400 Relay
Celine Dunlap – Pole Vault
Elissa Slizoski - Pole Vault, 100 Hurdles
Sheldon Beierman – 100 Meter Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, 4x400 Relay
Bailey Reigle – 400, 4x4 Alt.
Christina Stopak – 3200
Taylor Starman – 800, 4x800 Relay, 4x400 Relay
Ashlynn Baker – 1600, 4x800 Relay
Kendra Gonzalez – 1600, 4x800 Relay
Dana Pelster - 4x400 Relay
Olivia Slizoski – 300 Hurdles
Damian Backus – Long Jump, 100, 4x400 Relay
Scott Ketteler – 110 Hurdles
Zac Glidden – 400, 4x400 Relay
Kyle Kramer - 4x400 Relay
Cody Nelson - 4x400 Relay
Travis Kennedy – 4x400 Relay Alt.
