Funeral Services For Mary Channer

Mary M. Channer, 85, of St. Edward, NE passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in St. Edward, NE, with Rev. Vern Olson officiating. Burial will follow at the Main Cemetery in Belgrade, NE. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward, NE. 


Mary Maude (Cornwell) Channer the daughter of William Cecil and Blanche (Green) Cornwell was born on March 22, 1932 in St. Edward, NE.  She attended school at Pinnacle Hill until she was 11, and then went to Nance Co. District 76 north of Belgrade until the 8th grade.  Mary then graduated from Belgrade High School in 1949.  Following high school, she moved to Kansas and later to Colorado where she worked for Wells Music and Singer Sewing Company.
          
On February 14, 1954 Mary was united in marriage to Charles Vernon Channer at the Methodist Church in Belgrade, NE.  The couple lived in the Timber Creek and Belgrade area.  In 1959 they made their home in the St. Edward area. Mary attended college in Kearney, NE and received a teacher’s certificate.  She taught school at Boone County District 54 south of St. Edward.  Mary later was a teacher’s aide at St. Edward Public School and District 10 at Richland, NE.

          
Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Edward and was very active in the UMW.   She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge and Extension Clubs.  She enjoyed painting as a hobby, and her and Vernon loved to square dance and ballroom dance.

          
She is survived by four children: Kim (Lynn) Channer of Arthur; Sherry Gray of Genoa; Kandi (Todd) Bremer of St. Edward; Dawn Stephens of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers Bill (Connie) Cornwell of Albion, NE; Jap (Pat) Cornwell of Columbus, NE; sister Edie (Elmer) Knutson of El Paso, TX; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

          
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, her parents, father and mother-in-law Charles and Myrtle Channer; daughter-in-law Sandy Channer; son-in-law Bill Gray; brothers Les & Jim Cornwell; sister Dorothy Channer; brother-in-law Bill Channer; sisters-in-law Alice Leimer and Muriel Cornwell; nieces Sharyn Knutson and Susan Leimer; and nephew Donald Cornwell.
